We have reached that point once again in the year; it’s football time here at Eastern New Mexico University!!! The Greyhounds left New Mexico early in the season to do some work, as they had set foot on the turf of AT&T stadium in Arlington Texas to face off against Midwestern State Mustangs.
It was an eventful couple of days this past weekend in Arlington Texas. From checking in, to students and fans of Eastern New Mexico watching a Texas Rangers game the day before, the main reason for going to Dallas in the first place was to watch our very own ENMU Greyhounds. The Greyhounds needed to remain focused and well rested the night before, because it was indeed going to be a long game with Midwestern State coming in at 3-0 with a 1-0 start in conference play. Since 2012, the Greyhounds have been undefeated in this LSC Festival, but that sadly changed on Saturday as the Greyhounds came up a short to the Mustangs with a score of 28-24.
The team indeed did some outstanding work on the field, with Jakorias Williams, and Jeremy Doucette scoring on the ground, and D’maujeric Tucker scoring off a pass. “I think it was an offensive battle”, said Tanner Hightower-Wilson whom is the long snapper for the Hounds. “We moved the ball really well, and MSU couldn’t stop us, we just stopped ourselves with penalties and fumbles. We also prepared for the game by watching film on them, and having the scout team imitate their defense so we could get a visual look on what style they would run.” It also seems as if the Greyhound defense did some work to keep the game within four points.
The team, overall, did an outstanding job this weekend, even though the outcome was not how we all wanted it to be, the team never once gave up. Mistakes were made, but it didn’t take a grip on the game as they only came up short.
The Greyhounds look to bounce back on top this week as they head on the road to face Texas A&M Commerce on September 26th. Saturday has become the past for the Hounds, and look to work hard this week, and get the victory.
