Over a hundred students came to the Greek Park for ENMU’s Movie on the Lawn on Tuesday night, September 29.
The event provided free food for students. Some of snacks included were soda, pretzels, nachos and popcorn. Students enjoyed the food while watching the movie “Back to the Future.”
Before the movie, people waited in line to receive free homecoming themed T-shirts.
In addition to the movie, food and free shirts, there was a drawing contest to win free pairs of Converse shoes during the movie night.
Some people were lying on the ground while others sat on blankets or in chairs provided by ASENMU. Some audience members chose to bring their dogs to the event.
Several homecoming candidates also attended the movie.
Before the movie there were some technical issues. The music, light and projector stopped working. Students from Associated Students of Eastern New Mexico University, who are in charge of this event, used cellphone and flash lights instead and told students to wait for the power to return.
Power eventually returned, allowing for the event to proceed.
Several ENMU students said they enjoyed the event.
“It’s my first time to watch a movie on the lawn,” said Jennyfer Macias, an international student from Mexico “It [was] a good experience for me.”
Macias said she didn’t have homecoming events like these in her country and people who graduated from universities seldom went back.
“Homecoming seems important to everyone,” Macias said.
Drinking soda, eating food, and watching a movie on the lawn was an enjoyable experience, according to several students.
Annabel Jauregui said this was her first time attending a lawn movie.
Jennifer Bodley, a freshman in the communication disorders program
said she was excited to watch a movie on the lawn.
“It’s a fun experience and very interesting,” Bodley said.
