The Voice of the Student Body: ASENMU
The Associated Students of Eastern New Mexico University (ASENMU) is an organization on campus that consists of student representatives from each college.
According to the Student Body President, Halle Pittman, the organization’s purpose is to be the voice of the student body. They fulfill this purpose by making major decisions here on campus, representing students in University committee meetings, allocating over $20 thousand of student fees money to various student organizations on campus and listening to what students have to say.
In addition, ASENMU hosts various events on campus, such as Up Til Dawn, which will be held in February 2016. Up Till Dawn is ASENMU’s philanthropic event in which all of the proceeds are given to benefit the children of St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a hospital run primarily on donations.
ASENMU also hosts all of the homecoming festivities. Pittman said that the homecoming pageant, bonfire, and tailgate are all ASENMU events. One other event that Pittman said helps the students of ENMU is the Mud Volleyball Tournament.
“Mud Volleyball is also a fundraiser for student scholarships,” Pittman said. “Students play volleyball in the mud and it is a blast.”
ASENMU is also an organization that does not only services the campus. The organizations partakes in community service with the help of the student body. Through Eastern in Action, students are able to give back to the Portales community by lending a helping hand.
