After three years of the best football in ENMU history, the Gridiron Hounds are finally getting respect.
ENMU was voted the best football team in the state of New Mexico by HERO Sports.
The Greyhounds beat out New Mexico State, University of New Mexico, Western New Mexico, and New Mexico Highlands for the honor. The Greyhounds have posted a 20-13 record over the last three seasons, going 11-8 in conference play. No other New Mexico based team has a winning record during this span.
Though ENMU does have the advantage in their record, UNM and New Mexico State have played the likes of Auburn, Texas, LSU, Arizona State, and Ole Miss. This may cause some doubts in other people around the state, however the Gridiron Hounds believe otherwise.
"We work a lot harder than [other programs]," said freshmen wide receiver Cameron Duffy. "What we run is far more difficult than what other teams run."
A large part of the Greyhounds success is because of the job Head Coach Josh Lynn and his coaching staff has started over the last four years. After decades of being an inferior team in the Lone Star Conference, Lynn and his staff have a record of 23-20, including one Lone Star Conference title in 2013. ENMU also participated in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl game in 2015. This was the first bowl game that ENMU has participated in since the beginning of the NCAA era.
“I’ve been on a lot of successful teams,” stated Duffy. “This has definitely been something new. The work has been a lot harder, but I feel this team will be successful as long as this coaching staff is around.”
