ENMU Career Fair 2016

Counseling and Career Services put on their most recent Career Fair on Thursday, March 31. Geared towards helping students who are about to graduate as well as helping companies gain future employees, this Career Fair is valuable to ENMU. This year, 37 employers represented their companies in hopes to find students who are seeking a job after they graduate college.

Although the main focus for this fair are the graduating seniors, there are many other opportunities presented at the career fair for grad students, internships and student hire. Companies at the career fair traveled from different areas in New Mexico, West Texas, and even internationally.

The companies looking to hire students were very eager in their search. "You may not need a job, but you probably know someone that does. That is why we are here,” said Jay Kantor Assistant Chief Juvenile Probation Office at the Youth Center of the High Plains.

Philmont Scout Ranch, Lubbock Police Department, ShopKo and the U.S Forest Service are just a few businesses that were represented last Thursday. Some businesses even provided an opportunity for employment while still going to college, such as J.P Stone Community Bank and Habitat for Humanity.

Chris Tinder is an IT manager at the High Plains Federal Credit Union in Clovis New Mexico. Tinder also is an Eastern New Mexico University alumni. He obtained his position at the High Plains Federal Credit uUnion through this very Career Fair in 2011 when his friend picked up an application for him. Tinder was about to graduate, and he applied for the job on a whim, not knowing that he would gain employment. Five years later, he has had the opportunity to give someone a chance at a career in the field that they love just like the opportunity he was given.

Many employers are constantly searching for new potential candidates. If you happened to miss the Career Fair, do not hesitate to get into contact with Counseling and Career Services. They are the perfect resource to help students find a job that is the perfect fit for them.
