For the 2016 Homecoming Parade, ENMU collaborated with the community and Melissa Sena, the Senior Secretary in the Alumni Office, to put together a successful event. This parade represents hard work, dedication, and the close-knit community of ENMU and Portales.
The winning teams for this year’s Homecoming Parade were the NSSLHA float for Most Clever, Sigma Chi for Most Beautiful, and VOICES for Most Outstanding. The fourth trophy awarded was to La Casa Family Health Centers for Outstanding Community Float.
The representatives of the ENMU clubs and organizations who won trophies were given the opportunity to be presented on the field at the football game and be recognized as they were awarded their trophies. Each float that won a trophy had representatives who accepted it on the behalf of their club or organization.
Graduate CDIS Students Veronica Ayala, Gabe Ayala, Dom Ratto and Emily Davis accepted the Most Clever Award for NSSHLA. Sigma Chi President Caleb Baca and member Nathan Van Dam accepted the award for Sigma Chi. Finally, VOICES members Eva Dugas and Jasmine Romero accepted the award for their organization.
Sena begins preparing for the parade in June, and is in charge of granting permits, informing participants of their number in the line up, assisting them in that line up, and even painting numbers on the street for the participants.
Law enforcement plays a crucial part in the creation of a parade, helping to make sure the roads are properly cleared beforehand to run as smoothly as possible.
“It’s always a little bit stressful because you have those last minute little things that pop up, but I like it, I enjoy it”, said Sena.
