The ENMU Hounds tipped off against their rival West Texas A&M Buffaloes, Thursday night at Greyhound Arena. The Hounds came into the game with an impressive, undefeated Lone Star Conference (LSC) 10-0 record. They sat on top of the LSC and were playing at an all-time high, unseen at ENMU in many years.

The Hounds started the game on fire; sinking shots, catching rebounds and displaying solid defense. However, even with their hustle the Hounds found themselves trailing the Buffs throughout the majority of the first half. Fouls, turnovers, and the lack of offensive and defensive rebounds hurt the comeback effort from the team. The Hounds clawed their way to a ten-point deficit at halftime, with a score of 22-32.

The second half was much like the first with an intense defensive showdown. The Hounds pulled as close to five of the Buffs but just could not capitalize and pull ahead. The Hounds had one of their worst shooting nights of the season as it seemed there was a lid on the basket as uncontested shots even refused to go in. The Hounds however never lost their fighting spirit and refused to let the Buffs runaway with the game. Unfortunately, their fight was just not enough as they recorded their first conference loss of the season.

Greyhound Basketball Head coach Josh Prock stated the Hounds were “just off their game” and the “Buffs got the job done.” The added pressure of being undefeated as well as playing their rival had a little to do with the loss, as the Hounds “didn’t shoot the ball well and could have executed better” according to Prock. Prock also added that this team is “the most focused team” and will be “ready to play and avenge their loss on Saturday” against UTPB at Greyhound Arena.

With the pressure of maintaining perfection gone, the Hounds can now look ahead to keeping the number one spot atop the Lone Star Conference and continue to play with the determination and will to bring a championship to ENMU. Even with this loss, it is as always, a great day to be a Greyhound!
