Dear ...

Dear Crabby,

Since starting college, I find that I don’t have as many friends as I did back home. I spend a lot of time in my dorm room working on class work. My roommate gives me a hard time for not partying with her and her friends. I want to have fun but I’m afraid of failing classes. How do I balance all of that? Feeling lonely.

Dear Lonely,

A very wise wizard once said, “We must all face the choice between what is right, and what is easy.” (Thanks, Dumbledore). While Auntie Crabby is in favor of having a social life, you have to prioritize your education. I mean, you’re paying for it, right? Might as well make it worth your time and money. Take it from me-partying in college is fun NOW, but doing well in class, graduating from college, and being able to pay your bills makes for a fantastic future. If your roommate gives you a hard time for putting your studies first, well, you can give her a hard time in a few years when you’re her boss. Here’s an idea: combine your desire to do well in school with your desire to have a social life. Create a small study group! Try a study pot-luck. You’ll have more friends in no time, with great grades, to boot!
