Men's Basketball Streak

On February 23, 2017, Eastern New Mexico University’s men’s basketball team defeated Angelo State 82 to 66, winning their fifth straight game since the 2004 season.

The Greyhounds quickly established their lead with Andre Hughes scoring a three-point shot, 32 seconds into the game. The motivation, stuck. For the first 3 minutes, the only point Angelo State scored was from a free throw, granted after a foul by Hughes in the first quarter.

Moving into the fourth quarter of the game, the players built anticipation. ENMU’s point guard, Chris Wyms, stole the ball and immediately moved pace down the court. He then passed to teammate Lamarquis Thomson who made a smooth slam dunk, leading the Hounds 11-3.

Needless to say, the Green and Silver kept the Angelo State Rams on their toes. They took their time setting up shots and passing the ball.

As halftime approached, the Greyhounds lead 38-22. With an unexpected shot by Angelo’s, Brandon Williams, the score then tallied 38-24.

A quick succession of plays saw the Greyhounds matching Angelo State’s scoring, keeping their lead and then pulling further ahead 44-26. Though the Rams tried to make up the difference, the Green and Silver maintained their lead.

With ENMU’s victory near, the game started to intensify. In the last 2 minutes of the game, Angelo State made 6 fouls which gave the Greyhounds 9 additional points off free throws. ENMU clinched the win with an 82-66 victory on top of the Rams.
