Quadruplets Diaper Drive

The Happy Place, located on 119 S Main, is accepting diaper donations for a local mom. The donated diapers will go to Ms. Sanchez, the first woman in Portales to have quadruplets. Donations will be accepted until the babies are born or March 30, the due date.

After opening in the town square last November 2016, Julie Rooney and Mary Newell remain connected to the community of Portales. Today, their establishment, better known as “The Happy Place Bakery,” is holding a diaper drive for a local couple expecting quadruplets.

“We are both moms and for something as extraordinary as quads, we knew there had to be a push to help,” Rooney said.

Business partners, Rooney and Newell, heard about the pregnancy when the quadruplet’s grandmother came into their shop. “Momma has got to be feeling overwhelmed,” Rooney said, “We wanted to make sure she wasn’t alone in this.”

Since becoming aware of the pregnancy, Rooney and Newell began spreading the word of the drive on the business Facebook page. "We plan to keep collecting diapers until those babies hit the ground," Rooney said.

For every package of diapers donated, participants will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate to the shop. Rooney requested that participants bring diapers of all sizes to the drive, not just new born diapers, because babies grow quickly.

Making arrangements with the mother’s in-laws, the two owners eagerly wait for the family to pick up the diapers once the babies are born. According to Rooney, the mother is currently on bed rest. As of March 3, 2017, the couple is hoping for at least seven more weeks before the babies are born, adding two more boys and two girls to their family of three.

Diapers can be brought to The Happy Place, 119 S Main, Portales. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
