Hounds Take it Home in Final Game Against Angelo State
On April 23, 2017, the Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) baseball team played their final home game for the season and walked away with a resounding win on senior day over 11th ranked Angelo State. The Hounds split the series with Angelo State with a win on Friday night and a doubleheader loss on April 22nd.
Senior day began with highlights and showcasing of the determination and hard work in each ENMU senior including Jesus Villalobos, Matt Garley, Mike McNicholl, Scott Klein, Dwight Velarde, Zach Smithson, and Kyle Goldfarb. Receiving the nod to start on the mound, Senior Scott Klein began his last home game, throwing heat and keeping the Rams scoreless until the 6th inning.
The bottom of the 7th inning found junior, Zach Shank, at the plate and with his perfectly placed bunt allowed freshman Malcolm Smith to fire up the jets and reach home to tie up the game. The run was all the Green and Silver needed to rally and take a commanding lead in the 7th.
Angelo State was able to counter with a small rally of 2 runs on errors completed by the Greyhounds. Pitcher Persad came into the game with bases loaded and showed his prowess. He struck out the batter and saved the inning. The Hounds offensive power rallied on to the bottom of the 8th as Alex De La Cruz slammed a solo home run over left field. Garlind Webster helped pad the lead with a 2 run RBI to bring the score to 11-4.
The Hounds defense held their ground even with a small rally by Angelo State. The Hounds won the game 11-7 and capped a great weekend of baseball at Greyhound Field.
