Dear Crabby: Indecisive Break

Dear Crabby,

It may be a little too early to start planning, but I am so ready for Thanksgiving break. I want to go home and visit my family, but I don’t know if it’s worth the trip. I am from Las Cruces, so it’s not like I’d be traveling for a full day. Unfortunately, I haven’t had to travel for a holiday break before, so I don’t know if there will be a lot of traffic. Is it even possible to leave on Wednesday instead of Thursday—when does Thanksgiving break even begin? See what I mean when I say I don’t know if the trip is worth it. At the same time, I don’t know how much I plan on dedicating some time to my school work during break. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m the queen of procrastinating, but I fear that if I go home, I will blow off all of my assignments during the break. My professors didn’t make this an easy decision as I have part of a project due right when we get back from the break. I don’t know what to do. I really don’t want to be alone for Thanksgiving. If I stay, I am not sure if any of my friends are sticking around. What if I’m stuck in Portales, alone, and still blow off my work because I’m that lazy? Should I just suck it up, get my work done, and see my family another time? Or, should I go see my family for the holiday?

Dear Indecisive,

I, too, am queen of procrastination. There happens to be a way to get your work done AND go see your family. FYI, Thanksgiving break starts on Wednesday, November 22nd. So, you can travel on Wednesday morning, work on your project Wednesday night, and still celebrate with your family on turkey day! You’ll have to be disciplined and make yourself do the work Wednesday night. If you don’t, you’ll have to pack up and head back to Portales Friday morning while all the insane people are waiting in the cold outside Wal-Mart to get a $20 discount on a the newest iPad (or whatever the kids are crazy about these days. Auntie Crabby is not a fan of Black Friday shopping, obvs). If you come back Friday, you’ll have the weekend to finish your project. You can have your cake (or pumpkin pie) and eat it too. P.S.- going home to visit your family is always worth the trip.
