Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds End Historic Season

Ranked #20 in the LSC, Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds ended their historic season Saturday November 11, 2017, against #4 Midwestern State, in an offensive showdown loss where senior running back, Kamal Cass broke a 41 year old rushing record.

In an evening capped off by senior night, where twenty seniors were honored, the Hounds suffered just their second loss of the season. This unfortunate loss may have eliminated the Greyhounds from the LSC playoffs but they may have a chance for a bowl game.

The Hounds stayed true to their style and used the power of the rush by Cass to start the game. On the Hounds first possession, Cass had three rushes for a total of 70 yards to score a touchdown. The Mustangs answered quickly with a touchdown of their own to even the score.

MSU was able to force an ENMU fumble and scored in just four plays to move ahead at the end of the first quarter.

The Hounds responded at the beginning of the second quarter with a 12-yard run to tie the game. Offense was quick and intense as ENMU found their momentum on the ground while MSU found their positive yards in the air.

Touchdown runs by Paul Terry and Tayshaun Gary evened the score 28-28 at half for the Green and Silver.

The second half opened and the offensive momentum belonged to the Mustangs. MSU was the only team to score in the third quarter and held a lead of 35-28.

The Hounds fought back quickly in the fourth quarter and the dependable Bailey Hale tightened the score to within four, with a 33-yard field goal. MSU did not let up on the offensive pressure and were able to score another touchdown on the next possession. Cass was called on again and scored his 3rd touchdown of the game to close the gap to within five. The Hounds were unable to stop the Mustang’s offense as they scored two more touchdowns to move ahead 56-37. D’Maujeric Tucker was able to reach the end zone for the Hounds with 34 seconds left in the game, but it was not enough for Hounds to bring home the win.
