Mud Volleyball Welcomes Over 20 Teams Participating

April 26, 2018

The Associated Students of Eastern New Mexico University’s (ASENMU) annual event, ENMU Mud Volleyball, took place on Saturday, April 21. Over twenty teams came to participate in hopes of winning the $2,000 scholarship grand prize.

A brisk and windy morning didn’t seem to faze any of the competitors as well over 100 people with over 20 teams participated. All the teams were unique in following the Nickelodeon theme of the event; some teams included the “Of-Age-Spiking Ninja Turtles” whose outfits consisted of green shirts painted like turtle shells with color coordinated bandanas, and the “Fairly Mud Dogs” who were dressed up as characters from the Nickelodeon show “The Fairly Odd Parents.”

While most everybody was there for the volleyball, the event had more freebies such as burgers, hot dogs, snow cones, and even cotton candy. ENMU Junior Todd Atkinson stated, “This is my third year playing and also my third year helping set up and tear down. I keep coming back because I always have a lot of fun and it’s a great event.” Atkinson played for the team named “iMuddy,” one of the many team names that included a pun referencing a popular Nickelodeon show “It’s a great time being here, and it’s very rewarding” said Natalie Reyes, a junior at ENMU who helped with running and setting up the event.

At the end of day, the winning team in the competitive bracket was the “Thugrats.” The team will divide up the money from the scholarship amongst each other. The non-competitive bracket winner was “D.B.F.M.” who participated for fun and won it all on their side of the competition.
