The Baptist Student Union hosted an international night that included a potluck dinner, karaoke, and games to help international students connect with other Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds.
According to the ENMU International Students website, ENMU’s international students currently represent 26 different countries, including Canada, China, Denmark, Ghana, India, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Brazil, and more. Whenever an international student comes to ENMU, the Office of International Students helps them become more acquainted with the area.
“The goal is for all of the leaders here at ENMU to get to know the international students,” said Alexa Cable, ENMU senior, who is a part of the team for ENMU international students. “I’m in charge of getting to know all the students and to make sure they feel welcomed. I want to make sure that they don’t just get to know me, but they are also introduced to other Americans as well.”
The dinner was the first ever hosted by BSU for international students.
“I hoping to do more of these in the future and do one of these at least each semester,” said Cable.
The dinner welcomed roughly 20 students who enjoyed a potluck dinner while socializing with other students, international and local. Games and karaoke were also provided for the students.
“The last few summers I traveled overseas,” said Cable. “I went to Asia and Europe, and it was life changing. While I was there, I realized we don’t really host any events like this at ENMU. I really just want these students to feel welcomed and loved.”
