ENMU hosts high school drama enthusiasts

According to some Eastern New Mexico University theatre students, Drama Fest is one of the most anticipated weeks of the spring semester.

High school students from all over New Mexico and West Texas visited ENMU for the 64th annual festival.

The students got a chance to walk alongside ENMU theatre and filmmaking students, many of whom were high school students at Drama Fest themselves during their high school years, to different workshops.

This year, workshops included audition techniques, improvisation and film techniques. Along with workshops, high schoolers got to perform their own one-act plays, and seniors got the chance to audition for theatre program scholarships.

ENMU freshman Liam Hurley said that going to Drama Fest in high school influenced his decision to be a theatre major.

All theatre classes were canceled during the week of drama fest, allowing theatre students to fully immerse themselves in the festival.

“It went pretty well.” Hurley said about drama fest.

Planning for next year’s drama fest will begin late in the fall 2019 semester.
