Weather didn't stop local event

The wind was blowing, and the weather was chilly, but that didn’t stop anxious anglers from catching and cashing in on trout during the 10thAnnual Spring Trout Derby on March 30.

The Oasis State Park and Friends of Oasis hosted the event to help bring the community together and to promote and advertise fishing, hiking, and camping for the park.

More than 100 people signed up for the event, which cost $5 per person and $5 per vehicle entry into the park.

A total of 38 trout were tagged for the event, with each tag color representing a different amount of cash prize:

  • 2 Green tags - $100

  • 4 Red tags - $50

  • 12 Blue tags - $25

  • 20 Yellow tags - $10

There was also a drawing for various door prizes that anglers could walk away with.

The funding from the event went towards reimbursing the Friends of Oasis group for the tagged trout and purchasing items that the park may need later.
