The Pregnancy Resource Center is a non-profit organization that provides free services for anyone, regardless of their age, religion, gender, race or income level. The Pregnancy Resource Center has two office locations, one in Clovis and one in Portales.

“Our purpose for opening the Portales office was not only to serve the Portales community, but we also wanted to help empower college students to be able to continue with their education and their pregnancy, because we know that can be hard,” said executive director Carla Miller.

Listed are some of the services that the Pregnancy Resource Center offers:

Miller said the support services for mothers has a program called “Earn While You Learn.” During this program, women attend classes that help them with their parenting or pregnancy. Mothers who attend classes earn “baby bucks,” which can be used at the Pregnancy Resource Center Boutique where they can be exchanged for diapers, wipes, formula and even baby and maternity clothes.

“We really want to be able to walk alongside new families or even growing families and help them with their material needs, because we know how that can be one of the biggest fears,” said Miller, adding that “it may also be one of the biggest stressors for someone with an unplanned pregnancy.

Miller said that the Pregnancy Resource Center focuses on each client individually and develops a relationship with each of them. Each client is assigned a client advocate who walks them through their pregnancy or parental concerns. Miller said clients often form relationships with their client advocate.

“We hope that everyone who comes in walks away feeling loved and uplifted, but also empowered,” Miller said.

Miller said they see approximately 100 clients per month and their age range of patients is anywhere from 15 to 40 years old.

“We truly just want to be a light in our community and meet people where they’re at,” Miller said. “We know that New Mexico has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates, which includes Roosevelt County.”

Miller said the Pregnancy Resource Center accepts financial donations, as well as material donations. She said diapers and wipes are always a big need for their boutique, but formula and baby clothes are needed as well.

Miller also said the Pregnancy Resource Center has many churches in the area that support them and have diaper drives to help stock their boutique.
