College of Fine Arts Hosts Social
The College of Fine Arts at Eastern New Mexico University hosted a social at the pergola in the center of ENMU’s campus the evening of Friday, Sept. 6 for all CFA students. There, CFA faculty and students gathered for a potluck-style meal and live music courtesy of the ENMU Jazz Ensemble. The departments comprising CFA are Music, Theatre, Digital Filmmaking, Communication, and Art. The college hosted this event to show their appreciation for CFA students, according to the college’s dean, Jeff Gentry.
Sodexo provided hot dogs and hamburgers to attendees while CFA faculty provided various side dishes and desserts. Attendees were able to enter their names into drawings for gift cards to restaraunts in the area, such as Sweetwaters at Landall’s or Something Different Grill. Throughout the event, Gentry announced the winners of the drawings.
“I wanted to meet more of the freshmen that are in the [music] department,” said Cecilia McAfee, one of the students in attendance at the Fine Arts social. McAfee said that CFA has done a great job of helping students feel more appreciated in their departments. “Having a bunch of the faculty bring in the stuff that they made…that shows that they care a lot about us.” McAfee invited student Noah Urban, who agreed that CFA is succeeding in helping students feel appreciated. “It’s always fun to come here and talk to everybody and get to know people in the other departments,” said Maegan Stegemoeller, a music education major at ENMU. “I feel like they did a good job…I had a lot of fun today,” said ENMU music major Adriana Mundy.
In addition to a meal, the event offered volleyball, cornhole and even combat training with quarterstaffs, a traditional European pole weapon, in anticipation of the play “Sherwood—The Adventures of Robin Hood” at the University Theatre Center. The play is scheduled for Nov. 7 through Nov. 10.
