Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham Speaks About Businesses Reopening

May 7, 2020

On Thursday April, 16 Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham gave a press release in response to the White House’s press release of the guidelines that would be established in reopening businesses across the country.

The press release that Gov. Lujan Grisham is referring to is the one given by President Donald Trump on the same day. His release outlined three phases that the country is expecting to go through. Assuming that these three phases work accordingly, they should then help the country get back on track and recover economically.

Gov. Lujan Grisham responded to this press release, stating, “My administration is working doggedly to develop robust economic recovery plans alongside a plan for a thoughtful, staged and flexible reopening of our state.” New Mexico has been conducting coronavirus testing throughout the state and locating where individuals have been exposed to the virus. In the press release she mentioned that this process has already helped New Mexico take lead nationally to be one of the firsts to recover economically, “I believe it will ultimately help state businesses reopen faster and stay open for longer.”

New Mexico’s strict social distancing guidelines have already helped to flatten the curve. Although New Mexico has been working on a plan to help businesses reopen, Gov. Lujan Grisham mentioned that “as CDC, FEMA, and public health experts across the country have made clear, we are not at a point currently where it would be safe to reopen, and doing so prematurely would undo the heroic work of our health workers and first responders, endanger many more people and essentially guarantee enhanced transmission of the virus, leading to more illness and death.” Gov. Lujan Grisham and her team of experts are working diligently to help ensure public safety for every individual across the state. She mentioned that enforcing social distancing rules for a longer period of time may be the cure to containing the virus. Although she and her team are preparing for the future for when businesses will be allowed to reopen and what that might look like.
