Halloween Canned Food Drive

The Eastern New Mexico University Student Government Association hosted a drive-up Halloween canned food Drive on Oct 31, 2020, led by Jacqueline Flores.

On Oct. 31 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. the ENMU SGA asked people to donate any canned and nonperishable foods they had to spare. They came together to host a drive-up canned food drive in front of the Campus Union Building located at 1300 West 15th Lane, with all of the food being donated to the Eastern New Mexico Foodbank. Everyone dressed up in Halloween costumes and gave out treats to all the people who donated canned and nonperishable foods to make it fun.

The SGA was able to collect a total of 570 cans and nonperishable items on their first food drive. For those who couldn’t stop by on Halloween, SGA will be hosting three more canned food drives this November:

- Saturday, Nov. 7, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

- Sunday, Nov. 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

- Saturday, Nov. 21, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Each event will be in front of the Campus Union Building. They are asking everyone who is donating to stay in their cars and slowly drive up to the station that has been set up to comply with COVIDs social distancing rules.

Last year SGA was able to collect 1,000 canned food and nonperishables for Portales’ food bank. This year they are hoping to still meet that number or better! If people can’t make these dates, they can drop off canned food and other nonperishable food items at the ENMU Department of Public Safety, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
